Early voting begins Monday
Early voting for the Nov. 8 election begins Monday, October 4, and concludes Nov. 4.
Hours for voting are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays will have extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Early voting locations are: the Ray Mauer Annex, 403 12th Street in Bandera; the Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283 in Lakehills; and the Medina Annex, 161 E. Parker Street in Medina.
Sample ballots are available in person from the Bandera County Election Department and posted online at banderacounty. org/departments/Elections. htm.
The last day to apply for a Mail In Ballot in Friday, October 28. The last day to return that ballot is Tuesday, November 8. Voters guides from the nonpartisan League of Women Voters are available in person at the Bandera Public Library and online at lwvhillcountrytexas.org. The Bulletin will continue to highlight Q&A’s with candidates leading up to the election.

City of Bandera Elections
Mayor candidates are Rebeca Gibson and Cindy Coffey.
City Council has two spots open. Candidates are Alan Calaway, Jeff Flowers, Toni Kunz and Lynn Hogan Palmer.

The following candidates are on the ballot and listed as Unopposed Candidates Declared Elected:

• Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 1: Mike Towers (Republican)
• County Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 2: Gina Grothues (Republican)
• Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 3: Randy J. Boysen (Republican)

Medina ISD
The Medina Independent School District has three places open on its Board of Trustees. Candidates for Place 4 are Brin Hill and Sarah Holcomb. Candidates for Place 5 are Clifford Watts and Thomas Wickham.
In a Q&A with the League of Women Voters, Watts said he will not be able to serve.
A.J. Stern is the sole candidate listed for Place 1.
Utopia ISD
The Utopia Independent School District has nine candidates who filed for four positions on the district’s Board of Trustees.
The candidates are Savanna Bartolo, Sugar Moore Bennett, Chad Feller, Betty Anne Boyce, Tanya Cox, Chance Dean, Steve Harthcock and Chad Hillis James Long.
Congress – House Rep District 21
The United States House of Representatives has 435 seats and is the lower chamber of the US Congress.
US House of Representatives Texas District 21 serves 10 counties: Bandera, Bexar (part), Blanco, Comal, Gillespie, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Real and Travis (part). The term of office is two years.
The candidates are Chip Roy (Republican) and Claudia Andreana Zapata (Democrat)
Texas Legislature - Senate District 24
The Texas Senate has 31 seats and is the upper chamber of the Texas Legislature.
Texas Senate District 24 serves 13 counties: Atascosa (part), Bandera, Bell, Burnet, Coryell, Gillespie, Kerr, Kimble, Lampasas, Llano, Medina, Sutton and Williamson (part). The term of office is four years.
The candidates are Pete Flores (Republican) and Kathy Jones-Hospod (Democrat).
Texas Legislature House of Representatives District 53
The Texas House of Representatives has 150 seats and is the lower chamber of the Texas Legislature. Texas House District 53 serves 16 counties:
Bandera, Crane, Crockett, Edwards, Kerr, Kimble, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, Medina, Menard, Pecos, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, and Upton. The term of office is two years.
The candidates are Joe P. Herrera (Democrat) and Andrew S. Murr (Republican).
