The Pipe Creek Community Center, located at 165 FM 1283/10162 Hwy. 16S, in Pipe Creek, will hold their annual Potluck and Bunco Fellowship on Sunday, March 13, at 5 p.m. in the main room of the center.

The PCCC fundraising meeting will precede the potluck at 4:15 p.m. All members, and prospective members, are encouraged to attend.

They ask that members bring a dish for the potluck meal. Bunco will be after the meal and prizes will be awarded. They welcome donations for bunco prizes.

Membership runs from the last Saturday in October for one year. For individuals, the amount is $15; for families it is $25; and for businesses, $40. Membership gives a 50 per cent discount on leasing a room for events.

There are two rooms available for lease: the main room, which is larger; and the smaller North Wing room. All leases require a deposit and the kitchenette may be leased for an additional fee. For information on leasing and prices, call Jeanene Mansfield at 830-688-1146 or 210-885-6761.

The Community center has quite a history. In 1924 the building that was first on the property was the central location of the Pipe Creek School District No. 21. That original building was later put on rollers and moved to another location.

In 1948, several men in the community volunteered their labor and, with money available from the school district, built the building that stands today. It operated as a school until 1951, when the Pipe Creek School District merged into the Bandera Independent School District.

The county judge allowed the building to serve as the Pipe Creek Community Center in 1954 and in 1990 the Center acquired the deed to the property.

Pipe Creek residents see the building and the land it sits on as a vital part of Pipe Creek history.
