City enacts emergency water shortage conditions

The City of Bandera announced Monday they are following the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District’s Stage 5 drought response, which is based off current groundwater levels and rainfall deficit.

The emergency water shortage conditions enacted by BCRAGD aim to reduce daily water use in the county by 90 percent.

The restrictions require use of water from hydrants be limited to firefighting, related activities or other activities necessary to maintain public health, safety and welfare. Use of water from designated fire hydrants for construction is allowed under a permit from the city.

Furthermore, all restaurants may only serve water if patrons request it.

Washing down outdoor hard surface areas is prohibited.

Using water to wash buildings or structures for reasons other than immediate fire protection is prohibited.

The use of water for dust control is prohibited.

Flushing gutters or allowing water to accumulate in any gutter or street is prohibited.

Failure to repair a controllable leak within a reasonable period after being given notice needed repair is also prohibited.

Filling, refilling or adding of water to pools is prohibited.

Operation of any ornamental fountain or pond for aesthetic purposes is prohibited unless it is necessary to sustain aquatic life or it is equipped with a recirculation system.

No applicated for new, additional, expanded or increased-in-size water related services or items will be approved.

Irrigation or landscaped areas is prohibited.

Use of water to wash any vehicle is prohibited.
