Bandera Independent School District (BISD) announced last month that Gary Bitzkie, the district’s current Interim Superintendent, is the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent.

“The Board of Trustees is happy to announce Gary Bitzkie as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent for Bandera ISD,” said Board President Brittany Hicks. “His loyalty of 23 years to the school district combined with his eagerness to step in and fill the position of Interim Superintendent weighed heavily on our decision.”

By law, the board may not officially hire Bitzkie until 21 days following public notice, which was given on January 21.

“First off, I must say how excited I am to find myself in this position,” Bitzkie told the Bulletin in an email last week. “Bandera has been my home, and Bandera ISD has been my family for over 24 years. I cannot imagine myself anywhere else, so excitement is really an understatement.

“I am honored to be named as the lone finalist, and I lookforward to serving the members of this community with fidelity. I am blessed to have the best educators you can find working with me as we will continue to move the district forward.

“As Superintendent of Bandera ISD, I will ensure that we carry forward our district vision and core values. These were established by the entire community, and they have truly become our foundation. In fact, you will find our core values at the root of every single thing we do in Bandera ISD.

“I have placed our people at the forefront of every focal point we will address, and I will always do what is right for our students, staff, and our community. Thank you so much!”
