Bandera Library Happenings

Thanks to a grant from the Albert & Margaret Alkek Foundation, the Bandera Public Library has recently added several resources to make us an Autism Friendly Library.

For families with members on the Autism spectrum, a trip to the local library may feel out of reach.

We have added almost forty new titles for adults, teens and children in both fiction and non-fiction, on autism and other learning disorders.

Resources such as soft seating, better signage and items such as weighted plush animals, noise-cancelling headphones and fidget toys will be available for use here in the library.

These items help those with autism cope with outside stressors that make visiting the library a potentially difficult experience.

Maps will also be installed to encourage independence and reduce the risk of our neurodivergent patrons being overwhelmed.

Being able to serve this often-overlooked population means that the Bandera Public Library can better fulfill our mission which is to offer services and resources to foster of love of reading and a lifetime of reading.

Thank you to the Alkek Foundation for providing these much-needed resources.

Our holiday hours are as follows: closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, closing at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 31st and closed on January

1st. On behalf of everyone here at the library, have a wonderful, safe and happy holiday season! We are especially grateful to be celebrating the New Year as 2022 is the library’s 90th birthday. Be sure to be on the lookout for programming and contests all year long.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for our holiday hours.
