Bandera Library Happenings

July is flying by!

If you have a hard time keeping track of all the happenings here at the library, go to our online calendar at https://banderacountylibrary.org/ calendar.

Our calendar is kept up-to-date with all goings on including our Pokemon League, Storytime, Country Music Group, Summer Reading and Dungeons and Dragons and others.

Artist of the Month Michael Earney will be hosting a book signing on Thursday July 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Earney’s hyper-realistic paintings on display now at the Library have been reproduced in a series of books for beginner naturalists of all ages. His paintings feature wildflowers, birds and native plants among other nature themes. Stop by to pick up a copy and have it signed.

All of Mr. Earney’s paintings on display in the Artist of the Month Gallery are for sale, and a portion of each sale will support the Bandera Library.

The library is pleased to announce we are the recipients of a $2,500 grant from the Alkek Foundation to create an Autism Friendly Library. These funds will be used to update the library collection’s books on autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

The grant also allows us to purchase sensory tools such as weighted blankets, fidget spinners and more so that families with members on the autism spectrum can feel supported with helpful resources when they visit the library.

Our goal is to make the local library a comfortable space and resource of information for families with neurodivergent members.

Thanks again to the Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation for helping our library better fulfill our mission.

Join us for our newest program, “Learn to Knit!”, on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The class is for beginner knitters, but more advanced pickers can also get help reading patterns, fixing mistakes, choosing yarns or any other knitting related questions.

Sign up on our website using the Engaged Patrons button. Or you can call the library. Supplies are limited.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.

Happy tales, y’all.

Mauri Guillen Fagan is the Director of the Bandera Public Library
