The Grinch was absent December 18, as the Lakehills American Legion Post 410 and American Legion Auxiliary worked together and continued their long-standing tradition of providing a free Christmas Meal this past Saturday at the Lakehills Post.

The dinner was prepared by approximately 30 volunteers, who together deep-fried 22 turkey and prepared 17 pounds of mashed potatoes with gravy and five gallons of stuffing.

Green beans and a multitude of desserts rounded out the familiar Christmas feast.

The entire facility was holiday-ready with decorations completed by the Auxiliary, including green and red traditional Christmas colors on the tables, centerpieces, as well as two Christmas trees, and lots of wreaths, lights, and other decorations.

“We are pleased to once again provide a traditional Christmas meal to our community. This has been a long-standing annual event, and we are glad to host it for all our community. It’s a great way to see our fellow Community members and visit with them, gather with neighbors, and celebrate the Season together,” Post-Historian

Susan Parr said.

Legion Commander Will Evans added, “This is just one way that we can show our appreciation for our local community as they continue to support us so that we can continue to provide support to our local non-profits in all they do for local Veterans as well as the community-at-large. This wouldn’t be possible without both the American Legion Auxiliary and the Legion Post working together to decorate, cook, and serve all this great food. Our volunteers are a great team!”

The Lakehills American Legion Post, which is located at 147 Legion Drive (formerly 26th Street) in Lakehills has been in existence for over 100 years and is an open post, opening each day to Legionnaires as well as the community at 3 p.m., except Thursday.

The Post welcomes the community to visit there at any time during operating hours. Monday night pool games, Tuesday and Friday dart leagues, and sweepstakes machines are just some of the weekly attractions at the Post.
