The Hill Belly Babes 5th Annual Student Showcase was an exciting night of colorful costumes and unique belly dancing. The Babes performed for family and friends at the Rivers’ Edge Gallery in Kerrville on Saturday, November 6.

The group is composed of beginner through advanced dancers. Dancers included Elia Munguia, Cat Hicks, Elizabeth Sanchez, Jess Benavidez, Nancy White, Nicole Hicks, Carolyn Exline, Cheyenne Johnson, Debbie Knoebel, Michelle Brown, Robin Hodges, Terri Carpenter and instructor Toni Guerrero. Enthusiasm and excitement was in the air as groups and individual dancers performed their own choreography. Mistress of Ceremonies Toni Guerrero announced each dance and gave a history of the origins of belly dancing as well as facts about each style of dance. Amazingly, belly dancing is not just a Middle Eastern art form but different versions span the globe from India to Libya. Each dancer designed and sewed their own costumes for the event. The dancers made quick costume changes between dances to reflect the background of each dance. After four dance numbers, Sandra Schott of Saving Shelter Strays gave a brief presentation about her organization, its purpose and the necessity of pet spay and neuter. After a brief intermission with snacks provided by the Babes, guests were treated to four more dance numbers as well as an audience participation segment. Door Prizes were presented at the end of the evening.

The Babes would like to thank Mike and Debbie Wilson of River’s Edge Gallery for providing the space for the program. And they would also like to thank Cowboys and Mermaids Photography for their event photography. They would also like to thank the sponsors who provided treats for the goodie bags and door prizes handed out to guests: Atlas AC; Cibolo Flats Treehouse; Color Street Nails, Comerica Bank; Destination Cycle; Greenlite Property Services; Juniper Village; Mary Kay; My Little Princess; NAPA Auto Parts; Peterson Medical Center, Salon
