Bandera Library Happenings

Editor’s Note: Mauri Guillen Fagan is the Director of the Bandera Public Library.

Happy April to all! Thursday, April 6, is the monthly Book Club meeting in the Downstairs Meeting room at 10 a.m. The group will be discussing “Blessed McGill” by Edwin Shrake.

This is a classic Western set in Texas and follows the story of Peter Hermano McGill. Spoiler alert: in the story he ends up the first Roman Catholic saint in North America. The path that he takes to get there is not at all what you might expect. Join the Book Club the first Thursday of every month. You can pick up a copy of the title selections at the circulation desk.

As a reminder, the library will be closed on Friday, April 7, and will reopen again on Monday, April 10, for the Easter holiday. We hope that you have a wonderful weekend full of family and love. Spring is certainly in the Hill Country and the blankets of wildflowers are making the drives around Bandera a thing of beauty. If you like to garden, you’ll know spring is one of the two growing seasons we are lucky enough to have here in Texas. If you had no idea that was the case, it may be time to join the Bandera County Garden Club.

The group meets monthly here at the library to discuss a new topic to help local folks get the most out of their gardens. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11, at 10 a.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. This month’s topic will be on tomatoes. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, in this world like a tomato grown in your backyard. Come by to learn all about growing them and getting the best bang for your buck.

On Monday, April 17, the Watercolor Class will be meeting outdoors on the Courthouse lawn. Join the group as they create pieces together and share their painting techniques. The group will be painting at 10 a.m.

Be sure to mark your calendars for two exciting programs coming up. Saturday April 29, is Yoga on the Back Deck. Bring your own mat and be prepared for a lovely, gentle workout that is good for the body and good for the heart. The class begins at 10 a.m. We are counting down to Star Wars Day and our first ever Star Wars Mini-Con on May the Fourth. What’s a mini-con? It’s a smaller version of comic book conventions and will feature games, vendors, prizes, and even lightsaber training. Come dressed as your favorite Star Wars character and check out the many books, DVDs, and comics in the Star Wars universe the library has in our collection.

The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is located at 515 Main Street. We are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside services are still available for checkouts and business services.

Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with the library events by following us on Facebook (@banderalibrary), Instagram, TikTok (@ banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www. Banderalibrary. org.

Happy tales, y’all.
