YOU DID THAT

March 02, 2022 - 05:00

If one painting could express the horror of war against a civilian population, it would likely be Guernica, by Pablo Picasso. There’s an apocryphal story that while Picasso was in Occupied Paris during World War II, that Gestapo officers raided his apartment. They pointed to the painting, and asked Picasso, “Did you do that?” to which he retorted to each of them, “No, you did, and you did, and you did!” Elections have consequences. When you vote for ineffectual, corrupt, lying, cheating, weasels, simply because of name recognition or the letter after their name, without any thought about the competence of the person himself, and in the case of the office of the President, what foreign despots think of him, you get incompetence meets evil.

Look at the Ukraine, at the bloodied and dead civilians. Or we can go back a few months to the fall of Kabul, with parents tossing their small children desperately over concertina wire to our troops. If you voted for these corrupt, ineffectual, sordid politicians that are currently in charge, to quote Picasso, “You did that.” Congratulations.

Perhaps those of you who spend a lot of your waking life in the unicorn park, who think it’s great that politicians waste taxpayer money on things that affect a point percentage of the population, and while away your days “running down the merchandise” by whining about how terrible the United States is, would now turn your attention to a slightly more pressing matter – thermonuclear war. I wonder what kind of carbon impact that will have.

Monty Python said to always look on the bright side of life, so let’s do - at least we don’t have to read mean tweets anymore.
