Daniel and Andrew Almand have added a new venture to their business portfolio in Bandera with the opening of Salty’s Texas Provisions at 1107 Cypress Street.
Salty’s joins their flagship business, Texas Salt Company, and the Salt Block at the Texas Salt Company, a four-apartment accommodation in downtown Bandera.
Salty’s Texas Provisions specializes in Texas-produced foods, gifts, snacks, bath products and Western- themed items.
The light-filled space features a wall of Texas wines, an alcove dedicated to barbecue sauces, seasonings and snacks, a section for Texas jams and jellies, pickled vegetables and a selection of Texas-produced sweets.
About 80% of the nearly 1,000 products stocked in the store are made in Texas, most by Hill Country providers.
A tasting bar sits at the front of the store, allowing customers to sample items before purchasing them. The shop also offers a range of gift options at various price points for visitors and local residents.
Displays of Texas art are scattered throughout the store. Of particular note are the pen-and-ink drawings of Hill Country wildlife by Carol Darling. Her work depicts the region's native fauna. Darling lives in Kerrville and is a Hill Country artist.
A mural is taking shape on the south side of the building.
“We are very excited to be adding a mural on the side of the building by artist Andi Davenport,” Drew Almand said.
Salty’s offers an alternative to traditional souvenir shops, with a selection of products intended to appeal to a variety of interests. Its inventory emphasizes Texas-made goods and products reflecting the state's food culture and Western heritage.
“At Salty’s Texas Provisions, we specialize in Texas- made gourmet foods. Our shelves feature fresh jerky and biltong seasoned with Texas Salt Co. Cowboy Salt and pepper; handmade Texas chocolate truffles and candy by the pound; salsas and hot sauces, jams and jellies, including favorites from the Medina Apple Store and the full line of New Canaan Farms produced just down the road in Utopia; pickled goods, handmade pastas, and every flavor of Texas Hill Country Olive Company oils and balsamic vinegars,” Drew Almand said.
The owners have emphasized selecting products from Texas producers, with many sourced from businesses in the Hill Country.
“We also have a dedicated wine wall stocked with locally produced wines from along Highway 290 from Fredericksburg to Johnson City,” Drew Almand said.
“We are blessed for this opportunity, and Salty’s Texas Provisions is proud to be born in Bandera,” Drew Almand said.
Salty’s Texas Provisions is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The store is closed Sundays.
