This year’s midterm election could cost more than any election in US history. By mid-October, more than $10 billion had been spent on political ads aimed at controlling the government. NPR - the National Public Radio - calls it “midterm money madness.”
By then, Elon Musk had donated $176 million to Republican groups to elect conservatives, and George Soros had donated $100 million to Democratic groups to prevent that.
THE STAKES ARE HIGH
It’s hard living in the US right now. Conservative budget cuts under Donald Trump have hurt every day folks. They’re paying more for gas, groceries, health care and other necessities than they have in years.
If Trump conservatives win the midterms, things could stay that way or even get worse.
HOW THIS HAPPENED
• In 2010, the US SUPREME COURT ruling in the Citizens United versus Federal Election Commission case “is a controversial decision that reversed century old campaign finance restrictions and enabled corporations and other outside groups to spend unlimited money on elections.” So businesses and unions created Super PACs. The PACs can’t directly donate to political campaigns, but they can spend massive amounts of money on TV ads, radio ads, digital ads and mailers, supporting or attacking a political candidate.
• The Republican party’s ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL that President Donald Trump signed into law on the 4th of July 2025, gave “corporations and the ultra-wealthy trillions of dollars in tax breaks” while it cut trillions of dollars from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to pay for the tax breaks.
WHO ARE THE VICTIMS?
The One Big Beautiful Bill cut more than $1 trillion dollars from federal health programs, leaving “an estimated 10 million people losing their health insurance coverage,” according to the Center for Medicare Advocacy.” Who are these people? They’re mostly elderly people who have greater, more demanding health care needs than younger people in the advantage programs. Hundreds if not thousands live right here in Bandera County.
People living solely on Social Security – even those who have some retirement or investment income – are now having to depend on Food Banks for groceries or meals and have to restrict driving to clinics, drug stores and churches because the cost of gas is so high. And there are lots of other painful outcomes caused by the One Big Beautiful Bill.
THE SOLUTION
Take back the power stolen from American citizens – you, my dear reader for one – by voting for a Democratic takeover of Congress in the midterm elections. Then, we can quit worrying about Trump and the super-rich stealing our American rights to a comfortable life.
