BANDERA COUNTY FAIR

The 3-day Bandera County Fair returned to Mansfield Park after over thirty years this past weekend with record attendance, according to fair officials.

“We really want to thank the Konvicka family and Riding on Faith Rodeo for helping put this together,” Bandera County Fair President Arlene Guerra said. “They provided us the three B’s that make a rodeo: Barrels, broncs, and breakaways. They saved the day.”

The event began on Thursday, where the Fair hosted the return of the Little Mister Pageant. Jake Bents took the title and joined the Bandera County Queen’s Court.

The carnival grounds opened on Thursday, along with a children’s play area that local businesses put together, which included a bean bag toss, pumpkin bowling, an artwork studio with preset canvases, an escape room, face painting, and hair braiding and tinsel by local Dance Studio owner Kelly Hubble, and other activities.

Oasis Family Church oversaw the beanbag toss, which were created and donated by Texas Salt Co., with a painted backdrop crafted by Al’s Hideaway.

“A lot of community effort here,” BCF Director Christine Morse said.

Families were also able to shop for goodies at The Little Gnome Gift Shop, pet and feed cows brought by Highland Park, dunk city and county officials at a dunking booth sponsored by Bandera Post 157 and even adopt a dog from Saving Strays.

Friday and Saturday night held a packed house, where attendees were treated to bull riding competitions, mutton busting, barrel racing, and breakaway roping.

County Commissioner Troy Konvicka served as the event’s announcer, where he discussed the history of the competitions and Western pride.

“I cheer and celebrate each and every one of these cowboys and cowgirls down there,” Konvicka said.

Konvicka also made note that families had traveled from all over to attend the fair – with one having come all the way from Romania.

“We’re going to make this a memorial you will never forget,” Konvicka said.

Live music Friday through Saturday was provided by the Toman Brothers and Cactus County, along with a Mounted Shooters performance.

“We are already in talks of getting this together again next year,” Guerra said.
