The Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Liberty Tree Dedication Ceremony Oct. 3 on the lawn of the Bandera County Courthouse as part of the America 250 commemoration.
The ceremony, themed “Rooted in Patriotism,” will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at 500 Main St. in Bandera. A community reception will follow the ceremony.
According to the chapter, the event will bring together local and state officials, community members and representatives of patriotic organizations to recognize the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Texas State Rep. Wes Virdell is scheduled to read a state proclamation commemorating the dedication. Nancy Davis, Texas Daughters of the American Revolution state chair for America 250 and a Bandera County resident, is scheduled to speak about the Liberty Tree.
The ceremony also will include the unveiling of an official Liberty Tree plaque crafted by local metal artist Esther Benedict of Esther Benedict Metal Gallery.
The chapter said the plaque is intended to serve as a lasting tribute to the dedication and Bandera County's participation in America 250.
Officials expected to attend include Texas DAR state officers, the District VIII director and local chapter regents, as well as the Bandera County judge, county judge-elect and county commissioners.
The chapter said the dedication reflects its focus on historical preservation, education and patriotism as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution describes itself as a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization focused on patriotism, preservation of American history and education.
