The Medina Lady Cats and Bobcats turned in strong performances to close out August and open September, with the volleyball team earning third place at its annual tournament and the football team improving to 2-0 with back-to-back victories.
The Lady Cats began the day with a strong showing at the annual Medina Lady Cat Volleyball Tournament on Aug. 29.
Medina defeated Fredericksburg Heritage 2-0 to earn thirdplace honors.
Senior Crista Zirkel was named to the All-Tournament team after making an impact as both a front- and back-row player.
The Medina Bobcats moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6722 road victory over Lometa on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Bobcats traveled to Lometa for the 6:30 p.m. contest and scored touchdown after touchdown throughout the game.
With 8:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, the game was called under the sixman football mercy rule, giving Medina the 67-22 victory.

Medina opened the football season with a 6618 victory over Castle Hills.
The game was called with a little more than a minute remaining in the third quarter under the six-man mercy rule.
The Bobcats return to action for their season home opener at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Results were not available by press time.
