The Bandera Bulldogs bounced back in a big way Friday night, shutting out the Hondo Owls 27-0 in the Bulldogs’ first home game of the 2026 season at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter when quarterback Dalton Parks connected with Jaymin Klein for a touchdown. Parks went on to have a strong night through the air, finishing with 258 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Parks also found Breydan Gherman for a touchdown pass to end the first half. In the second half, Parks connected with Remington Galloway for a touchdown. Bandera added another score on the ground when Carter Hanks found the end zone to help the Bulldogs build their 27-point total.
Defensively, the Bulldogs recorded their first shutout of the season. Jonah Klein led the way with 12 total tackles, while Ruffin Scartocci followed with nine total tackles as Bandera kept the Hondo offense out of the end zone all night.
Head coach Joel Fontenot- Amedee was proud of the way his team responded during the week following the season-opening loss.
“I was very proud of how our guys responded during practice. They put on their hard hats and went to work! Our defense came to play and really locked in up front for the shutout. Special teams were a big key to the shutout as well. Our punter truly flipped the field a few times in the game.”
The defensive effort was a complete team performance, with players embracing a next-manup mentality and focusing on their individual assignments.
When asked what contributed to the shutout, Fontenot-Amedee pointed to the team’s ability to step up when needed.
“A next man up mentality. Do your job when your number is called,” he said. “Execution by just doing your job. If everyone fits together then we all shine!”
Friday night also marked the Bulldogs’ first opportunity to play in front of their home crowd this season, and the atmosphere inside Bulldog Stadium lived up to the occasion.
“It was phenomenal! The student section and band were rocking all night!” Fontenot-Amedee said. “Thank you to all those who came out to support the Bulldogs!”
With their first win of the season secured, the Bulldogs look to build on the momentum when they return to Bulldog Stadium Sept. 12 to host the Lytle Pirates at 7 p.m. Game results were not available at press time.
