Suicide prevention walk scheduled Sept. 19

The community is invited to participate in Light Up the Darkness, a JACPACK Suicide Prevention Walk scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Lakehills Community Library, 7200 FM 1283.

Registration will begin at 6 p.m., with the walk scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to carry lights during the walk as a symbol of hope and remembrance. The event is intended to raise awareness of suicide prevention, honor those who have died and support mental health.

A suggested donation of $20 per walker will benefit Objective Zero, a nonprofit organization that supports veterans, current service members and their families through peer support, outreach and suicide prevention initiatives.

Organizers said the event is an opportunity for individuals, families and organizations to stand in solidarity with people affected by suicide and support resources for veterans and others who may be struggling.

Participants may walk in memory of a loved one, in support of veterans or to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Organizers said all are welcome.
