After 40 years of service to the community, Dr. Allan Gratia and his wife, Kathy, have turned over the Bandera Chiropractic Clinic to Bandera newcomer Dr. John Van Dam. The practice is now known as Bandera Chiropractic.
The Bandera Chamber of Commerce hosted a welcome and grand opening celebration for Van Dam on Friday, Aug. 7.
The small office was crowded with well-wishers and Chamber volunteers. Snacks and wine were served to commemorate the event. Chamber President Shelly Kosmalski circulated through the crowd, welcoming participants.
Van Dam, an Air Force reservist, introduced his three children and wife to the crowd. He served 10 years on active duty as an Air Force medic. His friendly demeanor and outgoing manner made everyone feel welcome.
“I am glad to be in Bandera,” he remarked.
Van Dam has lived in Florida, Germany and San Antonio while serving in the military.
Van Dam has experience in emergency medicine, intensive care, general surgery and family medicine. He has worked extensively with veterans to restore mobility, reduce pain and improve overall function. His focus is on personalized care tailored to each patient.
Chamber Ambassadors Sara Sandifer, Tim and Vanessa Churchman, and Kimmy Williams chatted with everyone. Jane and Richard Pratt spoke to visitors and chatted with other ambassadors. Minnie Webster and Christine Morse also attended the event and spoke with other Chamber members. The large group was extremely affable and very hospitable.
Van Dam spoke briefly and introduced family and staff members.
The pinnacle of the event was a ribbon-cutting held outside. The crowd came together to welcome Van Dam, his wife and their three children.
The chiropractic office is located at 650 State Highway 16 South in the strip mall. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Van Dam also offers alternative office hours once a month.
