The Bandera County Fair will head to Mansfield Park Oct. 8-10, bringing three days of rodeo action, livestock, carnival rides, live music, exhibits, vendors and community competitions to Bandera.
The annual fair, promoted as a fall celebration in the Cowboy Capital of the World, will feature live farm animals and livestock, rodeos, exhibits, carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, live music and food from local vendors, according to the Bandera County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The fair also is calling on local artists, makers, bakers, photographers, crafters and skilled craftsmen to enter their work in this year's contests.
Contest categories include woodworking and welding under agricultural mechanics, along with photography, painting and drawings, wreaths, Western- themed floral centerpieces, mixed media, crafts, quilting, baking and canning under home economics and fine arts.
Baking categories include cakes, pies and cupcakes. The cupcake competition is open to children 8 years old and younger.
Entries for the fair contests are due Sept. 15. Those interested in participating can contact Carita at the Bandera County Visitors Center at 830-796-3045.
The fair's rodeo schedule will include the Ranch Rodeo at Mansfield Park Arena on Oct. 9-10. The Ranch Rodeo will feature ranch teams competing in steer tying, calf branding, trailer loading, pony express and ranch bronc riding.
The entry fee is $1,000 per ranch team. The Oct. 9 competition will serve as the qualifier, with the top six teams advancing to the Oct. 10 finals.
Each event during the Saturday competition will have $500 in added money, while the final three teams will compete for an additional $1,000 in added money. Buckles will be awarded to the winning team, along with a Top Cowboy award.
The Ranch Bronc event also will be held as a standalone competition during the rodeo. It will be limited to 10 entries, with a $100 entry fee and $500 in added money.
