Bandera County commissioners are expected to consider declaring a local state of disaster Thursday in response to the threat posed by the New World screwworm, according to the agenda for the court's regular meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 25 at the Bandera County Courthouse, 500 Main St.
Agenda item 10 calls for commissioners to consider a declaration regarding the screwworm threat and authorize County Judge Richard Evans to sign the order if approved.
The New World screwworm is the larval stage of a parasitic fly whose larvae feed on living tissue in warm-blooded animals.
State officials have increased preparedness efforts in recent months to prevent the pest from spreading into Texas.
Commissioners are also expected to consider an interlocal agreement with the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District to plan, fund, develop and operate a flash flood warning siren system intended to enhance the county's existing flood early warning capabilities.
Other agenda items include a presentation on a county-specific health insurance incentive program, approval of the tax assessor-collector as the designated officer to calculate the county's no-new-revenue and voter-approval tax rates, a public hearing on the county clerk's archive fee and several budget-related items.
Commissioners will also hold a budget workshop and consider budget line item transfers and amendments.
