Special to the Bulletin
The Frontier Times Museum will celebrate America's 250th birthday with a day of history-themed activities, music and food June 27 in Bandera.
The event, titled 'Freedom on the Frontier: Celebrating the Story of America,' will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum, 510 13th St.
Visitors will have an opportunity to experience frontier life through demonstrations by Charles Lara portraying the Black Beaver Traveling Trading Company and Delaware Indian scouts. Musician Lee Haile will provide period songs and stories.
Children and families will be able to make rag dolls, practice writing with quill pens and ink, and create quilt squares that will become part of a commemorative quilt marking the nation's semiquincentennial. The finished quilt will be added to the museum's permanent collection. The celebration will also feature hot dogs, chips, lemonade, cake and red, white and blue rocket pops.
Frontier Times Museum Manager Kim Miles said the event is designed to give families a glimpse into life in early America and the Texas frontier while commemorating the country's 250th birthday.
