Natural History and Art Museum celebrates decade in Bandera

The Bandera Natural History and Art Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary with a “Jurassic Jamboree” on June 13.

The party was scattered around the grounds of the museum with over 15 activities in which to participate.

One of the most popular attractions was the exotic petting zoo provided by Happy Tails Entertainment. The llama and the tortoise provided some interesting experiences for the little ones. The capybara and wallaby provided some exotic flavor.

Within an hour of the start of the event, over three hundred children and parents had come to see the event and have fun celebrating the museum’s birthday.

The inflatable slides were a thrilling time for the youngsters as well as the rock-climbing wall and ax throwing areas.

For the creative kids, craft tables were provided for kids to paint and express themselves. Face painting was also on hand.

Ranch Radio provided giveaway items and rocking country tunes to make the afternoon festive.

For those who wanted to “get Western” there was mechanical bull riding and horseback riding.

Frank Greer Magic gave three performances with the Nick Zamora Band rounding out the afternoon with some country tunes.

The Museum had plenty of volunteers on hand to help the parents and kids. A favorite was the baby t-rex puppet which squealed and screamed to the delight of the youngsters.

The cool, breezy afternoon provided the perfect setting for the celebration as kids and parents snacked on hamburgers and hot dogs under the trees.

A porch swing was raffled off at the end of the event.

While many of the celebration’s participants were from Bandera, some came from San Antonio and as far away as D’Hanis.

Children and adults alike seemed to enjoy the festivities provided and the fun time at the Bandera Natural History and Art Museum.

Organizers told the Bulletin the attendee count exceed their hopes, and they plan to continue the event in coming years.

Activities at the museum’s tenth anniversary jamboree included rock climbing, bunny petting, dinosaur- themed play areas and bull riding.
