Bandera County landowners, ranchers and agricultural producers will have an opportunity later this month to learn about several emerging pest threats affecting the region.
The Bandera County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a Bandera County Pest Update program June 23 at Mansfield Park Rec Hall, 2886 Texas 16 N. Registration begins at 1:45 p.m., with the program scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m.
The event will feature a presentation on the New World screwworm, followed by a pasture walk and discussions on pasture mealybugs and desert termites.
According to AgriLife Extension officials, pasture mealybugs have recently been detected in Bandera County and surrounding areas. The invasive pest can cause significant damage to native rangelands and improved pastures, raising concerns among agricultural producers.
Organizers said the program will provide timely information on pest identification, management strategies and potential impacts on local agriculture.
The event is free and open to the public.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by June 18 by contacting the Bandera County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 830-796-7755.
The program will be held at Mansfield Park Rec Hall, located at 2886 Texas 16 N in Bandera.
