Kerrville event marking anniversary of July 4 flood

KERRVILLE — Unity of the Hill Country will host a free Weekend of Hope & Healing July 3-5 to commemorate the first anniversary of the July 4, 2025, Guadalupe River flood and provide opportunities for reflection, remembrance and community support.

The three-day event will take place at Unity of the Hill Country, 1016 Jefferson St. in Kerrville, and is open to the public regardless of faith tradition or spiritual background.

Organizers said the gathering is intended to help residents honor those affected by the flood while recognizing the resilience that emerged in its aftermath.

“This sacred weekend was created to offer a space where grief and gratitude can coexist,” said Rev. Maggie Alderman, director of Silent Unity Prayer Ministry. “Healing often begins when people come together, share their stories, honor what has been lost, and remember they are not alone.”

The anniversary falls during a year in which the nation is also observing its 250th anniversary, creating what organizers described as a unique moment for both celebration and remembrance.

National Unity leaders Alderman and Rev. Shara Moscinska, executive director of Unity Community & Leaders Department, will travel from Unity World Headquarters in Unity Village, Missouri, to participate in the event.

Activities planned throughout the weekend include guided prayer and meditation sessions, a somatic mind-body-spirit healing workshop, a crystal bowl sound meditation, community journaling opportunities and a candle altar of remembrance.

A community prayer flag experience will allow participants to write messages of hope, healing and remembrance on flags that will be displayed throughout the event.

The weekend will conclude with a Blessing & Renewal Service on July 5 featuring a River Water Ritual Blessing. Participants will receive small vials of water drawn from the Guadalupe River and will be invited to return the blessed water to the river as an act of remembrance and healing.

“The July 2025 flood left a lasting imprint on this community,” Moscinska said. “This gathering creates an opportunity to honor the courage, compassion and resilience that emerged during one of the most challenging periods in the Hill Country’s recent history.”

As part of the observance, Kerrville Pets Alive! will host a Pet Remembrance & Blessing Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. July 3 at 2102 Memorial Blvd. The ceremony will honor pets and wildlife lost during the flood.

There is no charge to attend any of the Weekend of Hope & Healing events.

Unity of the Hill Country is a non-denominational spiritual community serving the Texas Hill Country through prayer, meditation, education and community outreach.
