Many of you know I had a serious hospitalization last month. While I’m thankful to be home, the fight isn’t over. Doctors discovered a severe aspiration infection that damaged much of my right lung. The good news is: it is not cancer. The challenge is that treatment will require a long road ahead—likely 6 months to a year of intensive antibiotics.
As treatment begins, I’ll need to make major adjustments to protect my health. I’ll be stepping back from many public activities and limiting my time in larger groups. If you see me wearing a mask, avoiding handshakes or hugs, or keeping a little distance, please know it’s not personal. What I have isn’t contagious—these precautions are simply to protect me while my body heals.
With only about 55% lung capacity right now, I tire easily and need to pace myself. I’ll miss many activities and, truthfully, I’ll miss the hugs and handshakes most of all.
