Special to the Bulletin

The Museum of Western Art will host 'Bold Vines, Bold Ideas,' a presentation by Texas winemaker John Rivenburgh, on June 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the museum in Kerrville.

The event is being presented in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution's Spark! Places of Innovation exhibit, currently on display at the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center, and is part of local participation in the America 250 celebration.

According to organizers, Rivenburgh has worked in vineyard management, winery construction, winemaking and branding, and has served multiple terms as president and vice president of the Texas Hill Country Wineries association.

He also serves on an advisory board for the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Museum Executive Director Darrell Beauchamp said the presentation highlights the innovation and entrepreneurship that have contributed to the growth of the Texas wine industry.

Texas ranks as the nation's fifth-largest wine-producing state, with more than 600 active wine producers and over 14,000 acres of vineyards.

The industry contributes an estimated $24 billion annually to the state's economy and supports more than 72,000 jobs. Organizers noted that the Fredericksburg area has grown from three wineries in the early 1990s to more than 80 today.

The presentation is free and open to the public. The Museum of Western Art is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville.
