Roy backs pro-law enforcement measures, announces campaign stops

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy announced support this week for several law enforcement- related measures passed by House Republicans during National Police Week while also launching a series of statewide campaign appearances tied to his bid for Texas attorney general.

According to Roy’s office, the legislation focused on honoring fallen officers, strengthening penalties tied to violent crime and expanding resources for law enforcement agencies.

“During National Police Week, we recognize the courage and sacrifice of the brave men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” Roy said in a statement. “I am proud to stand with law enforcement by advancing legislation that supports officers, protects public safety, and ensures those who wear the badge know we have their backs.”

Among the measures supported by Roy was House Resolution 1252, which honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and House Concurrent Resolution 96, which expresses support for law enforcement officers and condemns anti-police rhetoric, according to his office.

Roy also supported the Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act, which supporters say expands federal insurance fraud definitions related to bail bonds, and the Cashless Bail Reporting Act, which would require the U.S. attorney general to publicly identify states and local governments that allow cashless bail systems.

Separately, Roy’s campaign announced a series of statewide “get out the vote” events this weekend as part of his campaign for Texas attorney general.

Roy will appear alongside U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Eli Crane during stops in Rockwall, Tyler, Bryan, Cypress and Dripping Springs.

The campaign said the events are intended to highlight Roy’s record as a former federal prosecutor, former first assistant Texas attorney general and current member of Congress.

Early voting in the race begins May 18 and runs through May 22. Election Day is May 26.
