The Joshua D. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas awarded two $1,500 scholarships to area graduating seniors during its spring luncheon May 7 at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville.
According to the organization, the scholarships recognize academic achievement, leadership, community involvement and extracurricular participation.
Landry Rose Meyer of Blanco High School received the Joshua D. Brown Scholarship.
Meyer participated in volleyball, track and softball during high school, earning multiple all-district honors in athletics while also serving in Future Farmers of America and the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Texas Tech University to study agricultural communications with a focus on marketing and photography.
Juliana Long of Boerne Champion High School received the Sarah Jane Goss Scholarship.
Long was a four-year basketball letterman and active in debate, student leadership and volunteer programs throughout the community. She plans to attend Baylor University and pursue degrees in finance and economics.
The chapter also announced that Gus Lockwood, an Ingram seventh grader, won the District VIII DRT essay contest for his essay titled “Flags of the Texas Revolution.” According to the organization, Lockwood’s entry will advance to the state competition later this month in Fort Worth.
The Joshua D. Brown Chapter also welcomed several new and associate members during the luncheon and said the organization will resume meetings in September following a summer break.
