Legion posts announce donations, July 4 celebration

American Legion posts in Bandera County announced new donations supporting local youth programs and highlighted upcoming community events, including the return of the Lakehills Independence Day Parade, according to a press release.

During the Lakehills Community Center Youth Gala, American Legion Post No. 410 in Lakehills and Post No. 157 in Bandera presented a $500 donation to the Lakehills Community Center Youth Program.

The posts also announced a combined $1,700 contribution to the Hill Country Samaritans’ “Back to School Bash” after another sponsor withdrew support for backpacks used to distribute school supplies.

According to the release, the Lakehills American Legion Auxiliary is considering matching funds that could increase the total contribution to more than $2,500.

Bandera Commander Rick Olivarez and Lakehills Commander Jim Schledorn said supporting local students is important as many families struggle with the cost of school supplies.

The organizations also reminded residents about upcoming events, including the Armed Forces Day Shrimp Fest at American Legion Post No. 157 and a May 23 poppy fundraiser in Lakehills honoring fallen service members.

Post No. 410 also announced the return of its annual Independence Day celebration July 4 in Lakehills after the 2025 parade was canceled because of rain and flooding.

Events will include the 27th Annual July 4 Parade along Park Road 37, live music by the Scott Crofts Band and a community chicken barbecue.

The 2026 Bandera County Fair is scheduled for Oct. 8-10 at Mansfield Park in Bandera and will feature live music, carnival attractions, livestock shows, vendors and food celebrating the county’s ranching heritage.
