Bandera ISD announces free summer meal program for children

Bandera ISD will again offer free summer meals for children through its Summer Nutrition Program beginning June 1, according to a district news release.

The program, funded through the Summer Food Service Program and the Seamless Summer option, will provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to all children 18 years old and younger. Officials said meals must be eaten on campus.

Meals will be available Monday through Friday from June 1 through July 24 at Alkek Elementary, Hill Country Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center in Bandera.

At Alkek Elementary, breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Hill Country Elementary will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The Boys & Girls Club Teen Center will offer breakfast from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Bandera Middle School also will participate in the program from June 1-19, serving breakfast from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The campus will be closed on Fridays during that period.

District officials said the program is intended to help ensure children continue receiving nutritious meals while school is out for the summer.
