Abbott marks National Day of Prayer at annual breakfast

ROUND ROCK — Gov. Greg Abbott joined faith leaders and elected officials Thursday in Round Rock to celebrate the 75th annual National Day of Prayer during the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast.

Speaking to a crowd of more than 500 attendees, Abbott emphasized the importance of prayer and faith, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

“Wherever two or more gather in His name, God is with us,” Abbott said. “God is with us today as we celebrate the National Day of Prayer here in Texas and across the United States of America.”

Abbott encouraged Texans to remain faithful during difficult times and called on attendees to pray for law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

During the event, Abbott also presented a Texas Day of Prayer proclamation designating May 1 as Texas Day of Prayer. The proclamation encourages Texans “to unite in prayer, acknowledge God’s glory, find strength in His promises, and express gratitude for the many blessings” received, according to the release.

Among those attending the breakfast were Sen. Donna Campbell, Rep. Brad Buckley, Rep. Stan Gerdes, Rep. Caroline Harris-Davila and Rep. Hillary Hickland, along with other local and faith leaders.

The annual National Day of Prayer is observed across the United States and brings together faith communities for prayer gatherings and events.
