Roy schedules AG campaign appearances around state

A political committee supporting Chip Roy announced a series of campaign stops across Texas as part of an initial statewide tour tied to his bid for attorney general.

Texans for Chip Roy said the events will give voters an opportunity to meet Roy, hear his policy priorities and learn more about his background, which includes serving as a federal prosecutor and former First Assistant Attorney General of Texas.

Roy, a Republican who represents a Central Texas congressional district, is part of a crowded and closely watched race to succeed outgoing Attorney General Ken Paxton.

He has built a reputation as a staunch conservative and member of the House Freedom Caucus, often positioning himself as an outspoken critic of both Democrats and Republican leadership.

The tour begins May 4 in Conroe with a meet-andgreet alongside U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins, followed by a May 5 stop in San Antonio featuring U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and gun rights advocate Brandon Herrera.

Additional events are scheduled May 6 in Fredericksburg and Georgetown, and May 7 in Longview.

Roy is currently facing state Sen. Mayes Middleton in a Republican primary runoff after neither candidate secured a majority in the March primary.

Middleton, a Galveston Republican, led the initial field and has heavily self-funded his campaign, setting up a competitive contest for the GOP nomination.

Other Republican candidates earlier in the race included state Sen. Joan Huffman and former U.S. Justice Department official Aaron Reitz.

According to the campaign, Roy has emphasized conservative priorities including border security, designating drug cartels as terrorist organizations, restricting foreign land purchases and expanding Texas’ ability to challenge federal actions in court.

More stops are expected to be announced in the coming days.
