Lakehills library featuring local mother-daughter duo, fiber artists

The Lakehills Area Library is featuring artists from the Fiber Artists of San Antonio, along with local mother and daughter Melissa Brambila and Hailee Segura, throughout the month of May.

For more than 50 years, the Fiber Artists of San Antonio (FASA) has welcomed creative makers of all kinds. This eclectic group uses fiber to create a wide range of artwork. Members include weavers, stitchers, papermakers, quilters, fashion designers and mixed-media artists. The group meets monthly at the San Antonio Garden Center for workshops, make-andtake sessions and presentations by guest artists and instructors.

On display at the Lakehills Area Library are works by 24 FASA artists, featuring a variety of materials, including cloth, bubble wrap, feathers, scouring pads, horsehair, cardboard, tissue paper, pine cones, leaves, pinto beans, sticks, cork, buttons, beads and more. These pieces highlight the creativity and individuality of each artist and offer visitors a unique and engaging exhibit.

Also featured in the library’s display case are works by Melissa Brambila and her daughter, Hailee Segura. Brambila creates one-of-a-kind jewelry, often repurposing broken pieces and giving them new life. She said her work often reflects different seasons of her life and draws inspiration from beads that catch her eye. Her designs include earrings for holidays, school spirit and everyday wear.

Segura, a senior at Bandera High School, creates handcrafted cards. What began as a hobby has grown into a meaningful creative outlet. She said creating cards allows her to connect with her community in a personal way and channel her creativity into something positive and useful.

Visitors to the library during May will have the opportunity to purchase Brambila’s jewelry and Segura’s handcrafted cards.

The Lakehills Area Library is located at 7200 FM 1283, Lakehills. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
