Bandera High School students earned multiple top finishes at the recent University Interscholastic League (UIL) regional academic competition, including a firstplace team result and several individual state qualifiers. The Bulldogs placed first overall in team competition and will advance multiple students to the state meet. Ashley Meza Sanchez earned a regional medal with a fifth-place finish in spelling. Three students qualified individually for state competition. Vanessa Perez placed second in spelling and will make her first appearance at the state level. Carter Rissmiller earned first place in news writing, also qualifying for his first state appearance. Ruffin Scartocci placed third in headline writing and will advance to state for the second time after previously being part of a state-winning journalism team. Bandera also qualified a team for state in spelling. The team of Vanessa Perez, Abby Sizemore, Ashley Meza Sanchez and Emma Rynarzewski won the regional championship with a first-place finish. The group advances after serving as an alternate team at regionals last year and will be making its first appearance at the state competition.
