BOERNE — Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa is scheduled to hold a public campaign event May 12 at the Patrick Heath Public Library Amphitheater in Boerne as part of her bid for governor of Texas.
The event is free and open to the public and is part of Hinojosa’s effort to meet voters ahead of the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, where she will face incumbent Greg Abbott.
Hinojosa, a Rio Grande Valley native raised in Brownsville, attended public schools before earning a degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from George Washington University Law School.
Before entering public office, she worked as a civil rights and union attorney, representing workers in labor and wage disputes.
She was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2017.
During her time in office, Hinojosa has pointed to her work on public education funding, including support for a 2019 school finance measure that directed more than $11 billion to Texas schools.
She also served as the House sponsor of legislation that secured nearly $1 billion in federal funding for indigent health care in Travis County.
Her legislative record also includes measures related to corporate reform, public safety and benefits for military service members.
