AUSTIN — Greg Abbott delivered the keynote address Monday at the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony, honoring 25 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
Abbott presented the Texas Medal of Honor to a family member of each of the fallen officers during the ceremony, which was attended by surviving relatives, state officials and members of law enforcement.
“The people of Texas hold you in eternal gratitude for your brave, selfless service,” Abbott said. “This memorial serves as an eternal reminder of the heroes taken from us too soon. Their lives mattered, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten. May God bless the men and women who serve and protect our communities.”
Abbott also reflected on the history of law enforcement in Texas, saying modern officers continue a legacy rooted in the state’s early lawmen. He noted that while policing has changed over time, the mission to protect and serve Texans remains constant.
