County testing emergency alerts

Bandera County officials will test the county’s emergency alert system from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, as part of a statewide preparedness drill.

The system, operated through the South-Central Texas Regional Alert Network, is used to notify residents of emergency situations through email and text messages. Participation requires residents to opt in by providing contact information through the county’s website.

During the testing window, enrolled users will receive a message reading, “THIS IS A TEST OF THE BANDERA COUNTY EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM.” No action is required from recipients.

The test is part of a broader statewide drill coordinated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management to evaluate the effectiveness of local public warning systems.

County officials said regular testing helps ensure accuracy and reliability in emergency communications and improves readiness ahead of potential disasters. Following the exercise, Bandera County Emergency Management will submit a report to the state outlining results and areas for improvement.

Residents who wish to receive alerts can sign up or update their information through the “Emergency Alerts” tab on the county website.

Bandera County Emergency Management will also share reminders on social media in the days leading up to the test.
