The Major James Kerr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Kerrville recognized individuals and organizations for their service during and after the July 4, 2025, Hill Country flood.
Chief James “Jimmy” Dreiss of the Divide Volunteer Fire Department and Chief Lee Pool of the Hunt Volunteer Fire Department received the DAR National Defense Distinguished Citizen Award for their leadership during the flood.
The DAR Excellence in Community Service Award was presented to Daric Easton of Grape Juice Restaurant, Kerrville, and Laura Williams, founder of Washed With Love.
Easton transformed his restaurant into a donation hub, coordinated local businesses to provide more than 11,000 meals, and helped establish a recovery supply warehouse. Williams organized volunteers to wash, dry, and return more than 1,000 sets of clothing for first responders and families affected by the disaster.
Retired Lt. Col. Kimberly Rhoades received the DAR Women in American History Award for her 32year military career, including service in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, and Air Force, and honors such as the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
The chapter also honored Dusty Block of the Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department with the Eugenia Washington Medal for Heroism at the TXDAR State Conference in Dallas.
The Major James Kerr Chapter said it is proud to recognize individuals whose efforts strengthened the community during one of its most challenging times.
