League of Women Voters meeting in Bandera

The League of Women Voters of the Hill Country Texas will hold a meeting Thursday, April 2, at 9 a.m. at The Hen’s Nest in Bandera.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will include discussion of plans to increase voter turnout and distribution of voter guides for the May 26 primary runoff election.

Breakfast will be available on a Dutchtreat basis.

The League also reminded residents that April 27 is the deadline to register to vote or update voter registration information for the runoff election.

While Texas does not allow online voter registration, residents can update existing information, such as a name or address, through the state website, VoteTexas.gov.

Registration forms can be printed from the site and submitted by mail or in person to the Bandera County Election Department.

The May 26 runoff election includes a Republican primary contest for Bandera County judge between Dennis Fitzgerald and Susan Junker.

Additional Republican ballot races include U.S. senator, attorney general and railroad commissioner.

The Democratic ballot will include races for lieutenant governor and attorney general.

Under Texas election law, voters who did not participate in the March primary may vote in either party’s runoff.

Those who voted in a party’s primary are limited to voting in that same party’s runoff.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that encourages civic participation and does not endorse or oppose political candidates. The Hill Country chapter serves Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr and Llano counties.
