Bandera UIL on to regionals

Bandera High School UIL academic teams posted strong results Saturday, March 28, at the district tournament in Wimberley, with multiple students qualifying for regional competition.

Bandera High School advanced five regional qualifiers, three regional alternates and a regional- qualifying spelling team. After the first day of competition, the school stood in second place in overall sweepstakes.

Regional competition is scheduled for April 23-24.

Among the top finishers, Emma Rynarzewski placed second in calculator applications to qualify for regionals and finished fourth in spelling as an alternate.

Carter Rissmiller placed second in news writing and third in editorial writing to qualify for regionals, and also finished fifth in current issues and events.

Ruffin Scartocci earned regional qualification with a second-place finish in editorial writing and third in headline writing, and placed fourth in news writing as an alternate.

Ashley Meza Sanchez placed second in spelling to qualify for regionals, while Vanessa Perez won first place in spelling to advance.

The Bandera spelling team — Perez, Meza Sanchez, Rynarzewski, Abigail Sizemore and Isabelle Smith — also placed first to qualify for regional competition.

Mary Freeman placed fifth in ready writing and sixth in feature writing. Karlee Hamilton finished fourth in literary criticism as a regional alternate.

Bandera also placed second overall in the journalism team standings.

Students were coached by Stephanie Jones, Ginger Frye and Aidan Keane.
