Series to discuss, explain emergency service districts

The Pipe Creek Community Association will host its next “Pipe Creek Talks” event on April 14, focusing on educating residents about Emergency Services Districts, commonly known as ESDs.

The presentation will be led by Mike Arguelles, a retired firefighter and Pipe Creek resident, who will explain how ESDs function and their potential impact on local communities.

According to PCCA President Mike Easterling, the goal of the event is to provide clear, factual information before any consideration of forming an ESD in the area.

“We want to try something very different and that is to truly educate the community on what they are first,” Easterling said.

Interest in ESDs has grown across Bandera County, with communities such as Medina, Tarpley and Lakehills exploring the possibility of establishing districts to fund emergency services.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Pipe Creek Community Center, located at 165 FM 1283.

Organizers said the discussion will address what an ESD is, whether similar districts exist nearby and why the issue is relevant to residents in the Pipe Creek area.

The Pipe Creek Talks series launched earlier this year, drawing about 65 attendees to its first session on water issues in Bandera County.
