TMN chapter discussing deer

The Texas Master Naturalist Hill Country Chapter will host its monthly meeting Monday, March 23, with a presentation on overabundant white-tailed deer in the Texas Hill Country.

The public is invited to attend in person at St. Barnabas Church, 601 W. Creek St., or online via Zoom and Facebook livestream.

Evan McCoy, senior biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife District 5, will discuss how many deer are too many and ways to manage populations.

McCoy oversees daily operations, wildlife research, outreach programs and provides technical assistance to private ranches across 13 counties in the western Edwards Plateau.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with light refreshments. The chapter’s monthly business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by McCoy’s presentation at 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

The Hill Country Chapter is one of 48 chapters across Texas and serves Bandera, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Mason, Menard, Real and San Saba counties.

Sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, the chapter trains members in natural resource management and engages volunteers in a variety of community projects.
