The human remains found Oct. 17 on Wharton’s Dock Road have been identified through DNA testing as those of a Black female between the ages of 49 and 84, but authorities say her identity remains unknown because the remains do not match any current missing persons cases in Bandera County.
“We have entered the biographical and DNA evidence into state and nationwide databases in hopes of identifying the individual,” Sheriff Josh Tietge said.
Tietge said his department is also working with neighboring agencies to determine whether the remains may be connected to any ongoing cases.
“As we continue to investigate our current missing persons cases, any information or lead will be worked to exhaustion or resolution,” he said.
Kristy Tompkins, the mother of Jordan Tompkins, who went missing in Lakehills in April 2022, said she had hoped the discovery might bring answers about her daughter’s disappearance.
“It’s very hard. It’s been four years too long,” she said in a statement to the Bulletin. “Jordan may not be in Wharton’s Dock. Maybe she’s in Lakehills. I don’t know.”
Kristy’s interpreter, Deb Franz, said the family is now thinking of whoever may be connected to the remains.
“We are now praying for the family of whomever the remains belong to for their loved one,” Franz said.
Kristy said she will continue hoping for answers about her daughter.
“I just wish Jordan was with me,” she said. “Keep the case open until we find her. No matter what.”
