Lakehills emergency district proposal advances to public hearing

Bandera County commissioners have scheduled a public hearing to review a petition seeking the creation of Emergency Services District No. 2 in the Lakehills area.

The proposal, which has been submitted to the county but has not yet been formally accepted or rejected, will be considered during a public hearing set for Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37.

The petition has been under review for several months. A previous hearing was scheduled for Aug. 21, 2025, but that meeting was later cancelled.

Supporters of forming the ESD have said the district could improve emergency coverage in the Lakehills area and significantly reduce response times.

Others have raised concerns that restructuring service areas could create gaps in coverage or extend response times for some parts of the precinct.

Last year, commissioners encouraged further discussions between members of the Lakehills ESD committee and local volunteer fire departments to better evaluate service boundaries and operational impacts.

Officials also requested additional mapping analysis using Geographic Information Systems data to help clarify proposed district limits.

The public hearing will allow residents to provide input before commissioners determine the next steps regarding the proposed district.

In other action, the court approved a proclamation designating March 2026 as Texas History Month in recognition of the state’s historical legacy.

The next Commissioners Court meeting agenda also includes routine financial items such as budget transfers, amendments and departmental reports, along with discussion of county property policies and other administrative matters.
