Last October I wrote a letter that was printed in this paper. I believe that it is critical to repeat one sentence from that letter: “…. it is frightening for a president to have a secretive, MASKED army ,i.e. ICE. We mustn’t delude ourselves that this is normal in a democracy or that it would never be used against law abiding American citizens.”
Tragically this fear became reality. Not only have numerous American citizens been arrested, but now two innocent protesters have been murdered! Rene Good,mother of three, was shot in the face three times by an ICE agent who muttered “F***** B***” after killing her. Then Alex Pretti ( a respected intensive care VAH nurse) who attempted to aid a woman who had been pushed to the ground, was attacked by Border Patrol agents, pepper sprayed, and shot at least 10 times while face down on the ground. Noem called Pretti “a domestic terrorist”, and Stephen Miller stated that he was “an assassin” planning to kill many people. In my view, they are the domestic terrorists!
Numerous bystanders who videotaped these events proved irrevocably that Noem, et al, repeated boldfaced lies about the events leading to these murders. Additionally, ICE agents have been videotaped dropping tear gas canisters from cars, close to peaceful protesters who run away rubbing their eyes. Other agents have been videotaped spraying non-threatening people in the face with pepper spray with the same result. I can’t think of anything more unAmerican. Yet we are told that this paramilitary force has immunity from prosecution. We are told that these thugs “can’t be disrespected”. Really??
There will continue to be rallies attended by tens of thousands of concerned Americans until these troops are either removed or replaced by trained individuals who know how to de-escalate real threats and resist using deadly force that is not warranted. God bless and protect America and the American people from our own government!
