Bandera High School’s academics, speech and debate teams earned third place overall sweepstakes Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Wimberley UIL Invitational, continuing a strong run for the Bulldogs across multiple competitive events.
In speech and debate, Luke Parks placed sixth in poetry and sixth in persuasive speaking. Alyssa Ruch finished second in Lincoln-Douglas debate, while Tristan Boyes earned fifth in LD debate and fourth in persuasive speaking.
Aiden Garcia placed fourth in informative speaking.
Bandera’s journalism team once again captured first place overall sweepstakes, highlighted by several top individual finishes.
In editorial writing, Carter Rissmiller placed third, Jake Cesta fourth, and Ruffin Scartocci fifth. In news writing, Rissmiller earned second place and Scartocci placed sixth.
Cesta claimed first place in headline writing, while Rissmiller placed third and Colton Rissmiller fifth in current events.
Additional congratulations were extended in copy editing, where Bailee Konvicka earned first place and Sarah Le finished second.
In spelling, Emma Rynarzewski placed third and Vanessa Perez finished second.
The spelling team of Rynarzewski, Perez, Ashley Meza Sanchez, and Le also earned first place overall sweepstakes.
In social studies, Colton Rissmiller placed fourth and Meza Sanchez finished fifth. The teams are coached by Ginger Frye, Stephanie Jones and Aidan Keane.
