The Lakehills Area Libary is hosting two artists for the month of February, Connie Young and Denise “Cita” Van Dyke.
Connie Young is a former teacher of art in middle school and high school. She taught in public schools for 32 years. She retired from Bandera ISD.
Connie studied under several artists and graduated from the University of Southwest Texas State, with an Education with Art all-level Degree.
Her artwork includes oils, watercolors, and photography. Connie’s subjects are landscapes and animals which she selects from the family ranch. She uses color to create “strong focal points” in her work.
She continues to develop her skills in oils, watercolor, and photography.
Denise “Cita” Van Dyke learned the “classical method of drawing the skeleton, the muscular system and proportions of the human body” from her high school Art teacher.
His lessons formed the basis of how she taught art to her students at Bandera High School. After Denise retired from teaching, she has gone on to continue her own “artistic journey.”
She is exploring various mediums such as clay, papermaking, photography, painting, and sculpture. She is continuously experimenting by using different techniques and materials.
