Members of the Major James Kerr Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution delivered copies of Texas: Before the Lone Star to two Bandera elementary schools and the Kronkosky Library on Jan. 22.
Books were presented to Hill Country Elementary School, Alkek Elementary School and the library as part of a statewide initiative led by the Texas State Daughters of the American Revolution.
The organization said its 2025 goal is to place a copy of the book in every public elementary school library in Texas.
Chapter members said the effort is intended to help educate and engage students as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The book introduces young readers to the diverse experiences of Native Americans, Spanish colonists, European immigrants and African Americans living in colonial New Spain.
Stories are accompanied by a downloadable curriculum designed for classroom use.
According to the organization, the narratives were written and illustrated by Texas State Daughters.
Some stories draw from family histories passed down through generations, including accounts of ancestors who immigrated to New Spain.
Others highlight lesser- known individuals who served the Spanish crown and later supported the cause of American independence.
Those individuals are now recognized by the DAR as Revolutionary War patriots.
The Major James Kerr Chapter said it remains committed to promoting education, one of the DAR’s core objectives alongside historic preservation and patriotism.
