Lady Bulldogs earn key wins against Uvalde, Long Creek and improve record to 14-12

The Bandera Middle School and high school Lady Bulldogs basketball teams turned in strong performances last week, earning important victories through aggressive defense and balanced scoring.

The Bandera Middle School Lady Bulldogs dominated their home matchup last Wednesday, Jan. 21, against the Uvalde Lobos, with all four teams showcasing defensive intensity and contributions across the roster.

The eighth-grade A team improved to 3-1 with a win fueled by pressure defense, as every player recorded at least one steal.

Brenna Byrd led the scoring with 10 points, followed by June Flowers and Harper Hicks with six points each.

Aspen Collazo added five points, and Vanessa Gonzalez finished with four.

The eighth-grade B team moved to 2-1 after a 26-14 victory. Mika Gray paced the team with eight points, while Hailey Capps scored six.

Michelle Melton and Avery Dehart each added four points, with Sally King and Natalie Hauer contributing two apiece.

In seventh-grade action, the B team earned a 10-6 win to improve to 1-3.

Shannon Lewis led the Bulldogs with eight points, while Evangelina Rodriguez recorded four steals. Bandera’s defense held Uvalde scoreless in the first and third quarters.

The seventh-grade A team dropped a narrow contest but showed continued development despite the loss.

Abigail Wright scored six points, while Karlee Jaschke and Lila Hicks added two and one point, respectively.

Marlene Tetzlaff led the team in rebounds, and Kenzie Campbell paced the defense in steals.

The Lady Bulldogs will face Pearsall in their next middle school matchup.

At the high school level, the Bandera Lady Bulldogs secured their second district win of the season Friday night, defeating the Long Creek Lady Dragons 50-46 in New Braunfels.

Bandera overcame a physical contest that saw several players leave with injuries, relying on defensive pressure and timely free-throw shooting.

The Lady Bulldogs converted 11 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Senior point guard Taytum Moeller led Bandera with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Senior Brooklyn Grabs recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Seniors Kourtney Frerich and Maddie Davis also reached double figures, scoring 10 points each.

Bandera improved to 14-12 overall and 2-3 in district play and will travel to Davenport in its next game.
