LCRA opens applications for community grants

The Lower Colorado River Authority is accepting applications this month for community grants that support improvements to public facilities and equipment for emergency responders, according to a press release.

The grant program provides funding for projects such as upgrades to fire stations, community centers, sports fields and libraries, as well as the purchase of updated gear and equipment for first responders.

During this grant cycle, LCRA will award dozens of grants of up to $50,000, along with one grant of up to $100,000 to mark the program’s 30th anniversary.

LCRA awards community grants twice a year to volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, libraries, museums, civic groups and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations, as well as to local governments, schools and economic development organizations.

Grants are not available to individuals, for-profit entities, professional associations, social service projects or limited-use facilities.

Eligible organizations must be located within LCRA’s service territory, which includes all or parts of 73 Texas counties.

Applications for the next round of community grants are available online at lcra. org/grants and must be submitted by midnight Jan. 31. Most grants awarded are $25,000 or less, though several projects may receive up to $50,000.

Applicants with total project costs exceeding $5,000 are required to provide matching funds of at least 20%.

Eligible projects must benefit or be accessible to the entire community and must improve the value of a capital asset through construction, renovation or the purchase of equipment.

Counties eligible for the grant program include Bandera, Kerr, Kendall, Medina, Gillespie, Blanco and Comal, among others across Central and South Texas.

Additional information on eligibility requirements and the application process is available at lcra.org/ grants. Questions may also be directed to grants@lcra. org or by calling 800-7765272, extensions 3140 or 1627.
